Panadol: Types and Uses

  • What is in Panadols? Panadol products, or Paracetamol, are the most used painkillers and over-the-counter drugs globally. It was first introduced as N-acetyl-para-aminophenol in 1955 for its analgesic and antipyretic effects in children.
  • Moreover, the main active ingredient of Panadols is paracetamol or acetaminophen, best used to reduce a high temperature and treat aches and pain.
  • In addition, several Panadol medicine formulations are available to relieve all types of pain safely.
  • Thus, whether it’s a tension headache, joint pain, period pain, or toothache, Panadol can often help.

Why use Panadol?

  • Panadol products are available as tablets, capsules, syrup, a powder you mix with water, or suppositories. So, you can pick up whatever suits you.
  • Furthermore, paracetamol or Panadol products exerts analgesic and antipyretic effect by inhibiting prostaglandins.
  • However, unlike non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), it is not associated with gastrointestinal adverse effects.
  • It can be taken on an empty stomach as it doesn’t affect the stomach’s protective lining.

Different types of Panadol and their uses

  • Most Panadols include a multi-component preparation of Paracetamol in combination with caffeine and aspirin to relieve pain effectively.
  • The usual dose of paracetamol from one to two tablets up to four times a day with a maximum of 8 tablets/per day.
  • Additionally, Panadol products (only Paracetamol) are safe during pregnancy and lactation but avoid overdose risk. Also, avoid drinking alcohol with paracetamol and consult the physician if you have certain health conditions, such as liver problems.
  • Recently, some Panadol formulations have been prepared with Opti Zorb technology. This technology fastens the disintegration of paracetamol tablets in the stomach and increases gastric emptying, thus offering fast and effective pain relief within 15 minutes of ingestion of Panadol tablets.

How many types of Panadol

  • The three main ingredients that support the Optizorb technology are alginic acid, calcium carbonate, and crospovidone.
  • Alginic acid draws the fluid from the stomach into the tablet, causing it to swell and break apart.
  • Calcium carbonate works together with alginic acid to speed the disintegration of the tablet.
  • Crospovidone acts as a super disintegrant that dissolves rapidly in water.
  • Moreover, Panadol products with Opti Zorb technology are Panadol Advance and Panadol Extra tablets, designed with advanced absorption and fast pain relief.
  • Multi-component paracetamol preparations may consist of caffeine and paracetamol or other components that relieve fever and different types of pain, such as headaches, dysmenorrhea, and muscular and joint pains.
  • The following paragraphs will discuss how many types of Panadol are there.
