6 ways to Treat Asthma
There are 6 Ways to Treat Asthma
Asthma is a Chronic reversible inflammatory disorder of the airway.
Symptoms of asthma appear particularly at night or early in the morning.
It causes breathing to be difficult and triggers wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath, and produces extra mucus.
1- Steroid Inhalers (ICS):
- They are used in a metered-dose or dry powder inhaler. Inhaled corticosteroids treat inflammation in the airway, such as Budesonide, Fluticasone, Beclomethasone, Mometasone, and Ciclesonide.
2-Anticholinergics:
- They relax the airways and prevent them from getting narrower.
- This makes it easier to breathe.
- They may protect the airways from spasms. They also may reduce the amount of mucus produced by the airways, such as Ipratropium, Tiotropium
3-β2-Agonists:
- Short-Acting-Beta2-Agonist “SABA”: AlbuterolMDI, LevalbuterolMDI, Pirbuterol.
- Long-Acting-Beta2-Agonist “LABA”: Formoterol, Salmeterol, Arformoterol.
4-Methylxanthine: (Theophylline):
- They are medications with some pharmacological effects similar to caffeine.
- This type of medication relaxes and opens constricted bronchi.
- Because they help you “open up” and breathe easier, these medications are considered bronchodilators.
5-Leukotriene Modifiers:
- They are Allergy Treatments used to manage allergic rhinitis or allergies and prevent asthma, such as Zafirlukast, Montelukast, and Zileuton.
6-Monoclonal Antibody:
- It is a biological engineered, humanised recombinant monoclonal anti-IgE antibody developed for the treatment of allergic diseases and with apparent efficacy, such as Omalizumab
- To conclude, treatment of asthma depends on which step the patient is according to his symptoms. Quick relief and long-term control age group can achieve asthma treatment guidelines.
