The First Arabian Drug Information Centre (FADIC) inc.

FADIC is a professional health care organization to support pharmacy practice in the Middle East, offering Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).

It was founded in October 2014 to provide free resources and certifications for clinical pharmacists. (1)

History


About Us



In 2014:

  • FADIC is the outgrowth of the drug information centre, it was started in 2014 as an online platform for the trusted and evidence-based information resource to improve the pharmacy practice.
  • After the enrolment of more than 1500 students in FADIC online programs, and 500.000 visitors for the website and all FADIC platforms.

In 2016:

  • FADIC shared as a new vision for the clinical pharmacy education in the American College of Clinical Pharmacy annual meeting in Florida.
  • It started the second online learning course of patient counseling and education, then share in King Faisal Hospital and Research Centre in Saudi Arabia (4,5).

In 2018:

  • FADIC published a paper in Saudi Medical and Pharmaceutical Journal in the Role of Mentoring Programs for Pharmacy education.
  • A Systematic Review of Observational Studies, then started applying the mentorship reviewer system in FADIC programs with active learning activities such as project-based learning and workshop activities.
  • This presented in King Abdelaziz University (KAU) conference, and King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) pharmacy conferences, and  in Saudi Arabia, and in DUPHAT United Arab Emirates conference (2).
  • Additionally, FADIC signed up to CDC Antimicrobial Resistance challenge, the antimicrobial stewardship (ASP) school was launched to FADIC stewardship School was started in 2018.
  • Afterwards, signing up with CDC Antimicrobial resistance challenge, for stewardship research and educational certification for acute-care, ambulatory, long-term, outpatients, and for public (3,4).

In 2019:

  • FADIC Research School as 6 months study, it was started to share in scientific publications.
  • Then, provide the research methodology, toolkits, and roadmap to scholarships (5).

In 2020:

  • FADIC Antimicrobial Stewardship School is shortlisted for UK Antibiotic Guardian Award using an innovative interactive education through FADIC online platform system.
  • Using the best use of technology, including the evidence-based education, lecturer guidelines.
  • It helps learners to build-up their stewardship dashboards, and a real simulation for ASP which is necessary after the COVID19 Pandemics (4,5).

 

Clinical Activities


Free Resources and Activities

  • FADIC organized online Talks for 2 seasons, with evidence-based guidelines, articles, toolkits, and lists of medications, and online webinars.
  • In 2017, FADIC arranged an event in the Updates in Clinical Pharmacy Practice in Sudan Ministry of Health.
  • Then, the 8 Habits of Highly Effective Stewardship Programs to Meet the Joint Commission Standards for Hospitals, Ideal Pharmacist Event, FADIC Pharmacy Vision 2030 for efficient Pharmacy Practice in New Cairo event.
  • In 2018, The Pharmacotherapy FADIC News Network (FNN) was launched and an online e-news, which send a daily news for pharmacists every business day, to keep them updated with the most recent updates.
  • Additionally, improve their clinical practice especially in the COVID-19 pandemics with trusted evidence-based updates and news in different medical specialities. (14)

Courses/Mini-courses Credit Courses

  • FADIC announced the first drug information program and workshop for 3 months in 2016, available for pharmacists to prepare them to effective use of drug resources.
  • In addition to, patient counseling and education with more than 50 enrolments, antimicrobial stewardship program, OTC training program, and medication safety program (15).
  • Additionally, mini-courses for 4 weeks to improve pharmacy practice, such as pharmacist guide, microbiology, pharmacology, biostatistics, and clinical trials.

The University-Style Schools

  • In 2018, FADIC started the university-style schools for clinical research and antimicrobial stewardship schools.
  • The enrolment and interactions exceed the face-to-face interactions, project-based learnings (16).

Enrolment and Certifications

About Us


  • In 2016, FADIC started the CME courses and programs, each course consists of several weeks.
  • Moreover, using comprising online video lectures, handouts, textbooks, and resources, with integrated workshop and projects to assure the understanding of each lecture content.
  • Additionally, help students to understand the ideas and reinforces the learning objectives of each lecture contents.
  • Each lecture is preparing according to the FADIC Lecture Guidelines.
  • The courses were re-offered each 3 months.
  • Science 2018, all courses have been open ensoulment; students can enroll in one or more courses at any time after the course is launched.
  • All course workshops and lectures are available upon enrolment, completed at the student’s preferred pace on weekly basis.
  • FADIC offers university-style schools, which is a bit more expensive, but guarantees a job and advanced practice for the pharmacists.
  • Finally, the course fee is returned, if the student plans to cancel the program at any time for any circumstances (19).
