Brimonidine

Anti glaucoma Drugs

  • Brand Names: Alphagan P
  • Therapeutic Category: Ophthalmic Agent, Anti glaucoma Drugs
  • Dosage Forms: Solution, Ophthalmic
  • Use: Labeled Indications: Elevated intraocular pressure: Reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension
  • Ocular redness (OTC only): Relief of redness of the eye due to minor eye irritations
  • Dosing : Adult Instill 1 drop in affected eye(s) 3 times/day (approximately every 8 hours)
  • Dose Adjustments
  • Renal Impairment:. no dosage adjustments
  • Hepatic Impairment: No dosage adjustment.
  • Adverse Drug Interaction:
    Drowsiness, Allergic conjunctivitis, conjunctival hyperemia, eye pruritus, Dizziness, fatigue, foreign body sensation of eye, headache
  • Pharmacodynamics/Kinetics:
  • Metabolism: Hepatic
  • Half-life elimination: 3 hours
  • Time to peak, plasma: 1 to 4 hours
  • Excretion: Urine

  • May cause CNS depression, which may impair physical or mental abilities; patients must be cautioned about performing tasks which require mental alertness

  • Therapeutic Category: Ophthalmic Agent, Anti glaucoma Drugs
  • Dosage Forms: Solution, Ophthalmic
  • Use: Labeled Indications: Elevated intraocular pressure: Reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension.
  • Dosing : Adult :One drop in the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening
  • Dose Adjustments
  • Renal Impairment:. no dosage adjustments
  • Hepatic Impairment: No dosage adjustment.
  • Adverse Drug Interaction:
    Foreign body sensation of eye, Eye pain , stinging of eyes ,ocular hyperemia ,conjunctival hyperemia ,eye discharge , increased eyelash length, hyperpigmentation of eyelashes
  • Pharmacodynamics/Kinetics:
  • Onset of action: 3 to 4 hours
  • Peak effect: Maximum: 8 to 12 hours
  • Half-life elimination: 17 minutes
  • Metabolism: Primarily hepatic
  • Important Notes:
  • May change/increase brown pigmentation of the iris, the eyelid skin, and eyelashes; length and/or number of eyelashes may also be increased.

  • Therapeutic Category: Ophthalmic Agent, Anti glaucoma Drugs
  • Dosage Forms: Solution, Ophthalmic
  • Use: Labeled Indications: Elevated intraocular pressure: Treatment of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma
  • Dosing : Adult Instill 1 drop (0.5% solution) once daily in the morning
  • Dose Adjustments
  • Renal Impairment:. no dosage adjustments
  • Hepatic Impairment: No dosage adjustment.
  • Adverse Drug Interaction:
    Burning sensation of eyes, stinging of eyes, Angina pectoris, bradycardia, cardiac arrhythmia, cardiac failure, cerebral ischemia, cerebrovascular accident, claudication, cold extremities, edema, heart block, hypertension, hypotension, palpitations, Raynaud’s phenomenon
  • Pharmacodynamics/Kinetics:
  • Onset of action: Intraocular pressure reduction: 30 minutes
  • Peak effect: 1 to 2 hours
  • Duration: 24 hours
  • Half-life elimination: 4 hours
