1 – Atorvastatin: A Potential Treatment in COVID-19?

  • For patients with COVID-19 admitted to intensive care, giving atorvastatin 20 mg/d did not result in a significant reduction in risk for venous or arterial thrombosis, for treatment with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), or for all-cause mortality compared with placebo in the INSPIRATION-S study.
  • However, there was a suggestion of benefit in the subgroup of patients who were treated within 7 days of COVID-19 symptom onset.

3 – The direct evidence and mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine treatment of COVID-19

  • Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the third coronavirus causing serious human disease to spread across the world in the past 20 years
  • The World Health Organization reported that four candidate drugs, including remdesivir, are ineffective or have little effect on COVID-19.
  • According to China News, 90 % of Chinese patients with COVID-19 use traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), with an effectiveness rate of 80 %, and no deterioration in patient condition.
  • This study describes the advantages of TCM in the treatment of COVID-19 based on clinical evidence and the required methods for its clinical use.

5 – Effective drugs used to combat SARS-CoV-2 infection and the current status of vaccines

  • Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a causal factor of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
  • Drug repurposing, portraying patented drugs as a successful drug development technique, could shorten the period and minimize costs relative to de novo drug exploration.
  • In this review, they summarizes the current drug and vaccine discovery status against SARS-CoV-2, predicting that these efforts will help create effective drugs and vaccines for SARS-CoV-2.

6 – The therapeutic use of quercetin in ophthalmology: recent applications

  • Quercetin is a natural flavonol antioxidant found in various plant sources and food samples.
  • It is well known for its notable curative effects on the treatment of ophthalmic diseases due to various biological activities, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fibrosis activities.
  • This review will discuss the latest developments in therapeutic quercetin for the treatment of keratoconus, Graves’ orbitopathy, ocular surface, cataracts, glaucoma, retinoblastoma, and other retinal diseases.
