Validation of a Hospital Clinical Pharmacy Workforce Calculator: A methodology for Pharmacy?

  • The benefits of clinical pharmacy services are established within hospital practice but staff numbers required for service delivery are not well described and staffing levels vary.
  • The need for a consistent, objective method of determining staffing levels was recognised at a UK University Hospital and a Clinical Pharmacy Workforce Calculator (CPWC) was developed.
  • This study aims to develop the Activity Standard (AS) for pharmaceutical care and establish the reliability of the CPWC across acute hospital settings in UK.

Medication errors related to computerized provider order entry systems in hospitals and how they change over time: A narrative review

  • Evaluations of computerized provider order entry (CPOE) systems have revealed that reductions in certain types of medication errors occur simultaneously with the emergence of system-related errors – errors that are unlikely or not possible to occur with the use of paper-based medication charts.
  • This study aims to analyze and synthesize the literature on system-related errors, specifically in relation to the length of time that CPOE systems have been in use, to determine what is currently known about how system-related errors change over time.

Role of pharmacist during the COVID-19 pandemic: A scoping review

  • Since the start of the new Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in December 2019, pharmacists worldwide are playing a key role adopting innovative strategies to minimize the adverse impact of the pandemic.
  • This study aims to identify and describe core services provided by the pharmacist during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Future research with more detailed description as well as an evaluation of the impact of pharmacist intervention is needed in order to guide future actions in this and/or other pandemic.

Fighting against COVID-19: Innovative strategies for clinical pharmacists

  • Clinical pharmacists’ routine task is carrying out pharmaceutical care to ensure patients’ safe and reasonable medication use.
  • However, under public health emergencies, such as the outbreak of COVID-19, the work strategies of clinical pharmacists need to be modified.
  • This study aims to retrieve and investigate the prevention and control measures of clinical pharmacists during the outbreak of novel coronavirus, summarize the roles and responsibilities of clinical pharmacists, and to propose innovative strategies for developing pharmacy services under the epidemic.

  • This article seeks to explore the current activities undertaken across various community pharmacy settings in relation to the safety of the workplace environment for staff and patients.

  • The world has faced an unprecedented challenge when coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged as a pandemic.
  • Millions of people have contracted the virus and a significant number of them lost their lives, resulting in a tremendous social and economic shock across the globe.
  • This commentary aims to summarise the existing literature in relation to the promising treatments currently under trial, the perils of falsified medications and medicine-related information and the role of pharmacists in taking a leading role in combating these parallel global emergencies.
