1 – Saudi health minister: COVID-19 vaccines will be available at pharmacies for free

  • Saudi Arabia will provide coronavirus vaccines at pharmacies across the kingdom for free.
  • This comes as part of efforts to expand the ongoing inoculation campaign and facilitate access to vaccine sites.
  • More than 100 vaccination facilities have opened around the country since Saudi Arabia began its nationwide vaccination campaign on December 17.
  • Saudi Arabia’s Food and Drug Authority is currently evaluating a number of COVID-19 vaccines in a bid to expand the vaccination process in various regions of the Kingdom, which are taking place at a high rate.

  • Since the start of the new Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in December 2019, pharmacists worldwide are playing a key role adopting innovative strategies to minimize the adverse impact of the pandemic.
  • This study aims to identify and describe core services provided by the pharmacist during the COVID-19 pandemic.

3 – Assessing health care worker perceptions of face coverings during the COVID-19 pandemic

  • The Coronavirus Disease 2019 pandemic created a significant disruption in the personal protective equipment (PPE) supply chain
  • Face shields were reported to be better for breathing, cleanability, and prevention of face touching.
  • Face masks were found to be lighter and easier to wear especially among workers providing patient care.
  • Re-assessment of PPE and worker perceptions will need to be performed as products evolve and transmission dynamics are better understood.

4- Process for disinfection of N95 respirators during COVID-19 utilizing sterile processing department: A single center acute care hospital

  • During the COVID-19 crisis, disposable N-95 filtering face piece respirators became a critical supply in many health care institutions.
  • Infection preventionists nationwide struggled with ensuring their facilities had personal protective equipment available
  • N95 respirators are collected for all clinical units on a scheduled basis by the sterile processing department (SPD) in individually labeled bins.
  • Masks are then reprocessed in the appropriate equipment based on the US Food and Drug Administration Emergency Use Authorization guidelines.
  • Utilizing an interdisciplinary team to include the operating room, infection preventionist, SPD, and nursing leadership to troubleshoot and identify barriers on a routine basis was key to making the program a success for the many months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

5 – Evaluation of disinfection procedures in a designated hospital for COVID-19

  • Coronavirus disease 2019 has spread globally and been a public health emergency worldwide.
  • It is important to reduce the risk of healthcare associated infections among the healthcare workers and patients.
  • This study aimed to investigate the contamination of environment in isolation wards and sewage, and assess the quality of routine disinfection procedures in our hospital.
  • These results revealed the routine disinfection procedures in our hospital were effective in reducing the potential risk of healthcare associated infection.

6 – A laboratory model demonstrating the protective effects of surgical masks, face shields, and a combination of both in a speaking simulation

  • The protection against aerosol transmission provided by masks vs face shields or in combination when speaking indoors is not well understood.
  • Surgical masks alone provided good protection, surpassing the protection provided by face shields alone.
  • Both used together provided the best protection, although the combined protection was similar to surgical masks use alone.
