Parents lifestyle and offspring’s obesity

• Parents’ lifestyle and nutrition can program offspring obesity in adulthood.
• It is hypothesized that maternal swimming has beneficial effects on the adversity caused by paternal obesity on offspring.
• An experimental trial has been done for mice to test this hypothesis. The results indicate that Obese father induced offspring overweight, altered fasting glycemia and insulin sensitivity, leading to higher liver lipogenesis and inflammation, and lower beta-oxidation.
• However the swimming mother mitigated these adverse effects in mice offspring.

Fasting and diabetes

• A non-randomized controlled pilot study aim to investigate the feasibility, benefit and safety of a seven-day multimodal fasting intervention in people with T1D.
• Data acquisition took place prior, post and four months after the intervention and daily during intervention.
• The results indicate that Change from carbohydrate- to ketone-based fuel is possible  under stable blood sugar values.
• Also, By fasting, BMI and other symptoms  may show long-term improvements in adults with type 1 diabetes.

Google trends and COVID-19

• A study aim to determine the people interest in vitamins use in COVID-19 pandemic using Google trends data. The study concludes that Vitamins attract the public interest globally.
• The search made of the highest in the autumn and spring seasons, but the highest search related all search terms were determined to be in March 2020.
• Interest in vitamins has increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Malnutrition and pediatric oncology patients

• A study aim to determine the prevalence of malnutrition, to compare nutritional evaluation tools, and to highlight the importance of nutritional status in pediatric oncology patients hospitalized at the Ege University Hospital Pediatric Oncology Clinic.
• The present findings show that Pediatric Yorkhill Malnutrition Score( PYMS) has higher sensitivity for detecting malnutrition.
• Also, Nutritional status of pediatric oncology patients should be monitored using appropriate screening techniques throughout their treatment.

Camel milk and anemia

• High proportion of children were anemic in pastoralist rural settings.
• A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 388 preschool children in rural pastoral districts of Somali, eastern Ethiopia study aimed to investigate the association between camel milk (CaM) consumption and childhood anemia.
• The study concludes that CaM consumption was associated with lower prevalence of anemia as compared to Bovine Milk .

Polyunsaturated fatty acids and executive functions in infants

• A study aimed to assess the associations between n-3 PUFAs in breast milk and executive function (EF) in infants at 8 months of age.
• Infant’s EF was evaluated by planning tasks, including working memory, distractibility and inhibition of prepotent response at age 8 months.
• The results suggest a beneficial effect of higher EPA in breast milk (improving infant’s attention) when its levels are below a certain threshold.
