Child stunting in rural countries

  •  A randomized controlled trial  aim to investigate the effect of  maternal education on child stunting concurrent with wasting or overweight among children.
  • Half of 511 mothers of 6-8 months children were given a 6 months education concerning nutrition, hygiene and child stimulation. Anthropometry and prevalence of stunting with wasting or overweight were determined.
  • The results indicate that The prevalence of stunting concurrent with wasting or overweight remained low during the observation period.

PEG placement in children

  • A randomized clinical trial aim to assess the complication rate and identify if age, nutritional status and history of respiratory aspiration prior PEG are risk factors for post PEG placement complications in polish children.
  • The results indicate that The early initiation of post-PEG feeding was not associated with an increase in the number of complications. Most complications after the PEG procedure were mild.

The effects of living alone

  • A study aim to investigate dietary habits and medical examination findings in persons living alone and those living with another person(s) who attended a rural town’s health checkup in Japan.
  • The results indicate that Multivariate analysis revealed that living alone independently reduced the intake frequency of various vegetables and seafood, especially in men.
  • Also, Diastolic blood pressure and triglyceride levels were significantly higher in males living alone than in males living with another person(s).

Fasting and BCAA

  • Circulating branched chain amino acids (BCAA) are associated with cardiometabolic risk.
  • A cross sectional study aim to Examine the relationship between fasting status, metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes (T2D) with circulating BCAA levels.
  • The results conclude that Fasting is modestly associated with lower plasma BCAAs, except among women with T2D.So, These findings support hypotheses that impaired BCAA catabolism may be a feature of T2D pathophysiology.

Intermittent fasting

  • Intermittent Fasting (IF) may be safer and easier to maintain and could trigger cellular pathways that promote cell survival over growth and reproduction.
  • This may explain why intermittent fasting could improve health over and above the effects of weight loss.
  • There are many different types of intermittent fasting patterns, with current studies focusing on ‘early time restricted feeding’ which uses knowledge of the circadian rhythm to enhance the effects of fasting.

Ramadan fasting and gestational diabetes

  • A study aim to explore the safety of fasting in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) in Ramadan. 25 patients with GDM who choose to fast, were enrolled and provided optimum care that included Ramadan focused education.
  • The results indicate that There was effective reflection of hyperglycemic spikes, immediately post Iftar.
  • Therefore, Our study reinforces the importance of structured education before Ramadan to deliver optimal care for the management of diabetes..
