1- Plant based diet and plasma fatty acids changes

  • A study aim to discover the timescale of plasma fatty acid changes during transition to an exclusively plant- and fish-based diet in healthy humans and determine whether there are associated alterations in arachidonic acid derived inflammatory mediators, estimated stearoyl coenzyme A desaturase activity and blood pressure. The results indicate that Shifting to a plant-and fish-based diet produces rapid and sustained increases in n-3LC-PUFAs and decreases the n-6 PUFA ARA and its precursors, consistent with a cardio-protective profile.

2- Long COVID

  • Long-COVID is a new term that is used to describe the enduring symptoms of COVID-19 survivors . A recent meta-analysis showed that %80 of COVID-19 survivors have developed at least one long-term symptoms and the most common five were fatigue, headache, attention disorder, hair loss, and dyspne.
  • A recent paper discuss the hypothesis that altered tryptophan absorption and metabolism could be the main contributor to the long-term symptoms in COVID-19 survivors.

3- Food groups and life expectancy

  • A healthy diet is associated with a reduced risk of premature death. A study conducted to determine the association of expenditure on food groups with life expectancy in men and women.
  • This study used data from 1548 counties that represent more than 90% of population in the United States during the period of 2001 through 2014.
  • The findings may inform a nutritional measure against premature death and stagnation of increase in life expectancy.

4- Colostrum and VLBW newborns

  • Colostrum is the first secretion produced by the mammary gland. It has important immunomodulatory components and protective factors that contribute to the protection and development of the newborn.
  • A study aim to analyze the clinical outcomes of VLBW infants receiving oropharyngeal Colostrum.
  • The results indicate that Colostrum administration earlier and greater number of doses were associated with lower time to recover birth weight  and less time to reach full enteral feeding.

5- Bacterial communities and different phenotypes

  • A study aim to investigate the gut microbiota of individuals with different metabolic phenotypes and to compare their characteristics. 109 adults of both sexes, classified according to metabolic status, by body mass index and homeostasis model assessment.
  • The results indicate that The diversity and richness of bacterial communities was lower in obese and in the unhealthy phenotype. Also, The intestine of individuals with unhealthy phenotype houses a microbiota with less potential for butyrate production.

Magnesium bioavailability

  • A study aim to compare the bioavailability of different forms of Mg and to analyze the differences between them. Based on a PICO (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) research question, a search strategy for Mg bioavailability was done.
  • The results indicate that Inorganic formulations appear to be less bioavailable than organic formulations.
  • Also, All Mg dietary supplements can maintain the physiological levels of Mg in healthy subjects without prior deficit.
