Developed FFQ and pregnancy

  • A study aim to develop and evaluate the validity of a short, culture specific, semi-quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), for Greek dietary habits and among a population of pregnant women. The validity of the FFQ was by comparing FFQ derived nutrient intakes against the average of two 24hour dietary recalls (24hR) of 70 pregnant women. The results indicate that The developed FFQ is a valid tool that could provide reliable nutrient intake assessment in studies monitoring dietary habits of pregnant women.

MUFA and rheumatoid arthritis

  • Previous studies have indicated that dietary monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) are associated with decreased risk of osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A study aim to ascertain the potential causal roles of two most common MUFAs, oleic acid and palmitoleic acid, with RA and OA risk using a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) approach. The results suggest a causal relationship between higher genetically predicted MUFA levels and lower risks of RA.

Hypocaloric MD

  • A study aim to compare the short-term effects of hypocaloric Mediterranean and two high protein diets, with and without whey protein supplementation, on body composition, lipidemic profile, inflammation and muscle damage blood indices, in overweight, sedentary, young participants. The intervention lasted 6 weeks. The results indicate that Hypocaloric MD reduces body mass, fat mass and maintains FFM. Also, it is beneficial for metabolic and inflammation/muscle damage indices.

Dietary fat quality and LGA

  • A study aim to investigate the relationship between the usual intake of fatty acids and dietary fat quality indices of pregnant women and the birth weight categories of their newborns. prospective cohort study conducted with 734 mother-infant pairs in Brazil. Dietary intake was estimated through 24-hour dietary recalls. the data suggest that A higher intake of n-3 and n-6 fatty acids during pregnancy reduced the chance of LGA babies.

Intramuscular adipose tissue and dysphagia

  • A study aimed to examine whether intramuscular adipose tissue of the quadriceps at admission is related to the recovery of swallowing ability during a hospital stay in older inpatients. This prospective study included 344 inpatients aged ≥ 65 years. Recovery of swallowing ability was assessed using Food Intake Level Scale (FILS) .The results indicate that Increased intramuscular adipose tissue was more strongly related to worse recovery of swallowing ability than loss of muscle mass.

 (PG-SGA SF) and malnutrition assessment

  • A study aimed to determine the predictive validity of the Patient-Generated Subjective Global which addresses malnutrition characteristics ,risk factors, and the Short Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire (SNAQ), which addresses mainly malnutrition characteristics, for length of stay (LOS) in a mixed hospital population. The results indicate that PG-SGA SF identifies 35% more patients with malnutrition risk than the SNAQ .Also, According to PG-SGA SF high risk patients have a 36% longer LOS than low risk patients.
