Healthy literacy and healthy eating index

  • A cross sectional study aim to evaluate the associations between health literacy( HL) and healthy eating index( HEI )in adult. HL was estimated using the Health Literacy for Iranian Adult (HELIA) questionnaire.
  • Dietary intake, socio-demographic data, physical activity, and anthropometric measurements were collected using the validated questionnaires.
  • The study confirms a considerable association between HL and HEI and shows that health literacy levels have an important role in following the Iranian Dietary Guidelines.

Malnutrition and orthostatic hypotension

  • Malnutrition may be an important risk factor for orthostatic hypotension (OH).
  • A study aim to investigate the relationship between malnutrition and OH, and the effect of nutritional improvement on cognitive functions and gait-balance parameters in patients with OH.
  • The Head-up Tilt Table Test (HUT) and Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) were implemented to participants.
  • The results conclude that Optimization of nutritional status may improve global cognition and gait-balance functions, and prevent falls in older people with OH.

Curcumin and energy metabolism

  • A study aim to evaluate whether the beneficial metabolic effects of curcumin are associated with the regulation of energy metabolism and activation of fibronectin type 3 domain-containing protein 5 (FNDC5)/irisin.
  • The study used cellular and molecular techniques to investigate the effects of Cur on C57BL/6 mice that were fed a control diet or a high-fat diet.
  • The results indicate that Curcumin ameliorates inflammation and improves insulin sensitivity and energy expenditure in high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese mice.

Artificial nutrition and cancer patients.

  • An observational study aims to analyze the changes that occurred in the criteria for choosing the access route to artificial nutrition during thirty years of activity of a nutritional service team in a palliative home care setting.
  • The results indicate that the choice of CVC as an access route to HAN increased progressively and significantly due to personalized patient decision-making choices.
  • Also, In patients who maintained food oral intake, supplemental parenteral nutrition improved weight, performance status and survival better than other types of HAN.

Sulforaphane and Exercise

  • Sulforaphane is a phytochemical that is commonly found in broccoli. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study aim to investigate the effects of oral chronic Sulforaphane ingestion on heavy resistance exercise-induced muscle damage parameters.
  • The findings suggest that the oral chronic intake of Sulforaphane suppressed heavy resistance exercise-induced increase in muscle damage parameter and expression of inflammatory cytokines.
  • Also, The chronic use of Sulforaphane may be a novel therapeutic candidate for the prevention of muscle damage in athletes.

Folate intake and lung function

  • A cross-sectional study included 64 mild asthmatic children aim to explore the relationship between plasma folate status and measures of airway disease (as reflected by spirometry) in asthmatic children on a Traditional Mediterranean diet.
  • The findings of this study highlight the potential negative impact of folate deficiency on pulmonary function in asthmatic girls.
  • Also, the Prevention/management of folate deficiency in asthmatic children could improve lung function and overall health.
