Whole grain consumption and obesity in children
- A randomized crossover clinical trial aim to determine the effects of whole grain consumption on the metabolic profiles of overweight or obese children.
- Participants in the intervention group were asked to obtain 50% of their grain servings from whole grain foods each day for 6 wk. the results supporting the beneficial effects of whole grain foods on serum concentrations of glucose, triacylglycerol’s and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in overweight children.

Inflammatory potential of diet and GDM
- A study investigated the association between the inflammatory potential of the diet, measured by the dietary inflammatory index (DII), and GDM risk in pregnant Chinese women.
- The findings suggest that a higher DII score, corresponding to a more proinflammatory diet, is associated with a higher risk of GDM, particularly in pregnant women who were overweight or obese before pregnancy.

Weight loss and appetite regulating hormones
- A study aim to investigate the association between the magnitude of weight loss (WL) and serum concentrations of the main adipocytokines and appetite-regulating hormones in adolescents with obesity.
- The results indicate that Weight loss >10% seems to reverse obesity-induced hyperleptinemia while stabilizing the neuropeptides that control appetite in adolescents with obesity. Also, the study presents a prognostic mathematical model to predict body fat loss using weight, leptin, and α-MSH variations.

Nutritional factors and childhood obesity
- The etiology of childhood obesity is multifactorial, with age, gender, race and socioeconomic status.
- A study investigated the association between childhood obesity and household food insecurity in Koreans.
- Other lifestyle and nutritional factors associated with obesity were also examined.
- The results indicate that Differential lifestyle factors are associated with obesity phenotypes in boys and girls. Also, Food insecurity showed a contrasting association with obesity risk by gender in young Koreans.

Vitamin D in renal lithiasis
- An article describes two cases with renal lithiasis who received a megadose of vitamin D . The first case reports an old man with a long-term history of renal lithiasis .
- He received 50 000 IU per week of vitamin D for 3 mo, and 25(OH)D increased to 36.6 ng/mL. Then Vitamin D in a single dose of 600 000 IU intramuscular was prescribed. After 3 mo his 25(OH)D was 75.0 ng/mL.
- He had no episodes of lithiasis renal crisis.

Anorexia nervosa
- This disease can lead to chronic undernutrition and low body weight, adversely affecting each body system, exacerbating systemic medical complications, especially acute life-threatening complications.
- Therefore, AN has the highest mortality and disability rates among all mental diseases.
- There is a basic clinical need to identify and address the acute and critical complications of this disease as soon as possible as severe eating disorders can lead to sudden cardiac death.
