1- High protein Intake & Aging

  • A study aims to explore the impact of a higher protein diet on 1C metabolite status in elderly males compared to current protein recommendations.
  • Elderly men were randomized to receive a diet for 10-weeks containing either the recommended dietary allowance of protein or double protein recommendations.
  • The results indicate that Dietary B vitamin adequacy was achieved, and choline sparing demonstrated at higher folate intakes only in response to the high protein diet.

2- Probiotics & Inflammatory Response

  • Probiotics may have beneficial effects on intestinal dysbiosis.
  • A randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled clinical trial aim to investigate the effect of a multiple-strain probiotic on the redox and inflammatory responses in individuals with intestinal constipation.
  • The results suggested that a multiple-strain probiotic may provide a better enzymatic antioxidant response and partially alleviate the feeling of incomplete defecation in at least ¼ of bowel movements in individuals with intestinal constipation.

Nutritional Status of Centenarians

  • A cohort study aimed to understand the diet-related behaviors of Hainan centenarians and analyze dietary factors that affect their nutritional status.
  • The diet-related behaviors were assessed using the Food Frequency Questionnaire; nutritional status was determined according to the Mini Nutritional Assessment (Short Form) scale scores.
  • The results indicate that Dietary factors affecting nutrition status included three meals a day, tea drinking, and the frequency of poultry, seafood, nuts, and pastry consumption.

Low carbohydrate diet and diabetes

  • A study aims to explore the possibility of a low-carbohydrate diet as a substitute for ketogenic diet intervention in mice with type 2 diabetes.
  • The results suggest that low-carbohydrate diet and ketogenic diet have different effects on glucose and lipid metabolism, and low carbohydrate diet might have more benefits in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  • Moreover, the low-carbohydrate diet plays a role in inhibiting hepatic gluconeogenesis and improving lipid metabolism.

Artificial intelligence and sarcopenia

  • sarcopenia evaluation with the use of imaging methods has been time-consuming and depended on the skills of the physician. The solution for this problem may be found in Artificial Intelligence.
  • An article aims to find and present current status and future perspectives of Artificial Intelligence in the imaging of Sarcopenia.
  • The results found that Artificial Intelligence systems could potentially help with the evaluation of sarcopenia and better prediction of outcomes in a vast range of clinical situations.

Enteral nutrition and ECMO

  • There are concerns about adverse events related to early enteral nutrition (EN) in patients receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
  • A study aims to evaluate the nutritional support of patients receiving ECMO and identified factors that may confer benefit to patient outcomes. The results indicate that early EN was associated with reduced in-hospital mortality.
  • Moreover, EN can be recommended in the early stages of ECMO even when the energy intake from EN is small.
