Orange juice and cardiac remodeling

  • Doxorubicin is a highly effective chemotherapeutic agent for treating several types of cancer; however, it can induce cardiotoxicity.
  • A study evaluated the influence of Pera and Moro orange juices on cardiac remodeling induced by acute administration of doxorubicin in rats.
  • The results indicate that Pera and Moro orange juice attenuated cardiac remodeling induced by doxorubicin, improved myocardial energy metabolism, and attenuated oxidative stress.

Postoperative nutrition and colorectal cancer

  • Nutritional status significantly influences postoperative prognosis in gastrointestinal cancers.
  • It has been evaluated using Sarcopenia before treatments, such as surgery and chemotherapy, despite constant changes in the nutritional status.
  • A study evaluated the prognostic effects of improved postoperative nutritional status for patients with colorectal cancer recurrence.
  • The results suggest that in colorectal cancer patients with Sarcopenia, nutritional management is important not only preoperation but also postoperation.

Nicotinamide and kidney injury

  • Inflammation plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of rhabdomyolysis-induced acute kidney injury. Nicotinamide, a form of vitamin B3  has been shown potent anti-inflammation effects.
  • Klotho is a tubular highly expressed renoprotective protein. A study explored the effect of Nicotinamide on rhabdomyolysis-induced acute kidney injury and the underlying mechanisms.
  • Thy study demonstrates that Klotho preservation is essential for the renoprotection effect of Nicotinamide.

Caffeine and ammonemia

  • Both exercise and a ketogenic diet favor glycogen depletion and increase ammonemia, which can impair physical performance.
  • Caffeine supplementation has been routinely used to improve exercise performance.
  • Herein, a study aim to evaluate the effect of xanthine on ammonemia in cyclists who were placed on a ketogenic diet and engaged in prolonged exercise.
  • The results suggested that the use of caffeine might attenuate the increase in ammonemia that occurs during exercise.

Green and yellow vegetables and ulcerative colitis

  •  Oxidative stress is considered to be one of the etiologic factors involved in ulcerative colitis (UC).
  • The aim of the present case–control study in Japan was to examine the association between intake of green and yellow vegetable Intake of green and yellow vegetable was not related to ulcerative colitis.
  • Also, Intake of other vegetables, vitamin C, and retinol was inversely associated ulcerative colitis risk.

Caffeine and vitamin D

  • Low serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels are a global concern.
  • A couple of in vitro studies observed a decrease in the expression of vitamin D receptor induced by caffeine.
  • Thus, A study aimed to associate dietary caffeine intake with 25(OH)D deficiency through a recognized dataset. The results indicate that Higher dietary intakes of caffeine were associated with 25(OH)D deficiency in a representative sample of the American population.
  • Further studies are crucial to determine causation.
