Sarcopenia and ICPIs

  • A recent meta-analysis focusing on the prognostic value of Sarcopenia in advanced cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors( ICIs )comprehensively. A systematical search for relevant studies in the Web of Science, Pubmed, and Embase was conducted on August 19, 2020. The results indicate that Sarcopenic patients yielded significant worse survival than non-sarcopenic patients receiving ICIs. Therefore, Routine assessment of Sarcopenia status should be emphasized for patients treated with ICIs.

Diets changes and normal bladder function

  • A study aim to investigate the effects of diet reversal to standard chow on diet-induced changes in structure and function of normal and obstructed bladders in male Wistar rats. Animals were divided into sham-surgery and bladder outlet obstruction dietary groups and fed on standard chow (control), high carbohydrate , high fat and high protein. The results suggest that reversal of the diet could reverse all diet-associated changes that increase inflammation and fibrosis in obstructed bladders.

Soybean oil and Cholesterol

  • soybean oil is the leading edible oil consumed globally and in the US. Soybean oil accounts for over 40% of the US intake of both essential fatty acids. A study reviewed clinical and epidemiologic literature to determine the effects of soybean oil on cholesterol levels, inflammation, and oxidation. Clinical evidence indicates that soybean oil does not affect inflammatory biomarkers, nor does it increase oxidative stress.

Dark chocolate and glycemic control

  • There is substantial interest in using dark chocolate to prevent postprandial hyperglycemia. A study investigated the effects of cacao polyphenol-rich chocolate on postprandial glycemic and insulinemic responses and whether cacao polyphenol-rich chocolate increases glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) secretion. The results indicate that This study indicated that the intake of cacao polyphenol-rich chocolate before a 50 g OGTT could enhance early insulin and GLP-1 secretion in healthy participants.

Vitamin A and epithelial cells

  • A study aim to investigate the modulation of cell cycle by vitamin A derivatives (retinyl palmitate or retinol) in undernourished intestinal epithelial crypts (IEC-6). IEC-6 cells were exposed to nutrient deprivation (no serum and glutamine) and supplemented with retinyl palmitate or retinol. Proliferation, apoptosis/necrosis, cell cycle process, and gene transcription were assessed. The results indicate that Proliferation and apoptosis are impaired by retinyl palmitate in undernourished intestinal epithelial cells.

Fruits and vegetables in inflammation

  • Vegetables and fruit-derived formulations have been used to treat inflammatory conditions and their associated disorders. Evidence shows that fruits like grapes, watermelon, orange and vegetable-rich diets are beneficial against common chronic diseases, cancer, obesity and cardiovascular diseases. For example anti-inflammatory compounds in onions help to lessen the clinical symptoms associated with conditions like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Also, the presence of various phytochemicals in bitter melon make it useful for inflammation in bones and joints.
