Time restricted feeding and metabolism

  • A review aims to summarize that Time restricted feeding (TRF) is an emerging dietary approach that maintain a robust circadian rhythms in support of a steady daily feeding and fasting cycle.
  • TRF regulates the circadian rhythm of food intake that protect against metabolic disorders induced by adverse nutrient intake. Concurrently, TRF imposed diurnal rhythm in nutrient utilization, thereby preserving cellular homeostasis.
  • TRF also executes host metabolism from nutrient availability to optimize nutrient utilization.

Skipping meals and lipid profile

  • There is an increasing trend of skipping meals, especially breakfast and dinner, in China. A study aim to assess the association between skipping meals and metabolism.
  • A national representative survey of 47,841 adults (≥45 years) was conducted in China. Frequency of breakfast, lunch and dinner consumption were assessed with a questionnaire.
  • The results indicate that Skipping breakfast is associated with worse lipid profile however, Skipping lunch and dinner generally has a neutral effect on metabolism.

SNPs and lipid profile

  • A study aim to develop genetic scores based on single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) related to lipid metabolism and evaluate whether they can estimate disturbances in adolescents’ circulating lipid profile biomarkers.
  • The results indicate that The genetic risk scores associated with worse outcomes in all lipid profile variables.
  • Also, LDL-C concentrations were strongly influenced by the genetic risk scores. To conclude, The genetic scores are helpful to evaluate the risk of alterations in lipid profile.

Nutrition score and cardiovascular health

  • A study investigated the utility of nutrition scores in predicting mortality and prognostic importance of nutrition status using 3 different scoring systems in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients.
  • The results indicated that Patients with low nutrition score were at a higher risk of major adverse cardiovascular events and all-cause death than patients with high nutrition score.
  • Additionally, the GNRI had the greatest incremental value in predicting risks among the 3 different scoring systems used in this study.

Bee pollen and Bee bread

  • Bee products, especially bee pollen (BP) and bee bread (BB), have demonstrated several nutritional and bioactive properties, which make them functional foods par excellence.
  • A review describes the digestibility, bioavailability, and absorption behaviors of dietary phytochemicals present in BP and BB.
  • It also addresses possible factors that may adversely affect the human health due to its intake and highlights food practices for the industry.

Bee Propolis and type -2 diabetes

  • A study  designed to investigate the preventive effect of Propolis, bee pollen and their combination on Type 2 diabetes induced by D-glucose in rats.
  • The results found that16 weeks of treatment with D-glucose led to type 2-diabetes, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia and hepato-renal damage. Propolis and bee pollen attenuated the deleterious effects induced by D-glucose.
  • These results have been related with a high antioxidant activity, more intense in Propolis extract.
