Effect of tocilizumab on clinical outcomes at 15 days in patients with severe or critical coronavirus disease 2019: randomised controlled trial

  • This study aims to determine whether tocilizumab improves clinical outcomes for patients with severe or critical coronavirus disease 2019.
  • In patients with severe or critical covid-19, tocilizumab plus standard care was not superior to standard care alone in improving clinical outcomes at 15 days, and it might increase mortality.

Persistence of SARS-CoV-2 specific B- and T-cell responses in convalescent COVID-19 patients 6-8 months after the infection

  • Monitoring the adaptive immune responses during the natural course of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection provides useful information for the development of vaccination strategies against this virus and its emerging variants.
  • This study profiled the serum anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody levels and specific memory B- and T-cell responses in convalescent coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) patients.
  • Our data suggest that protective adaptive immunity following natural infection of SARS-CoV-2 might persist for at least 6-8 months

Clinical Outcomes and Plasma Concentrations of Baloxavir Marboxil and Favipiravir in COVID-19 Patients: An Exploratory Randomized, Controlled Trial

  • Effective antiviral drugs for COVID-19 are still lacking.
  • This study aims to evaluate the clinical outcomes and plasma concentrations of baloxavir acid and favipiravir in COVID-19 patients.
  • These findings could not prove a benefit of addition of either baloxavir marboxil or favipiravir under the trial dosages to the existing standard treatment.

COVID-19 and Acute Pulmonary Embolism: A Case Series and Brief Review

  • The SARS-CoV-2 virus, or COVID-19, is responsible for the current global pandemic
  • Here they report a case-series of COVID-19 patients with diverse presentations of pulmonary embolism (PE) at our institution.
  • They also briefly describe the pathophysiology and mechanisms for pulmonary embolism in COVID-19.
  • These cases indicate a need to maintain a high index of suspicion for PE in patients with COVID-19, as well as the need to consider occult COVID-19 infection in patients with PE in the right clinical circumstance.
