1 – Safety, Immunogenicity, and Efficacy of a COVID-19 Vaccine (NVX-CoV2373) Co-administered With Seasonal Influenza Vaccines

• The safety and immunogenicity profile of COVID-19 vaccines when administered concomitantly with seasonal influenza vaccines has not yet been reported.
• A sub-study on influenza vaccine co-administration was conducted as part of the phase 3 randomized trial of the safety and efficacy of NVX-CoV2373.
• This is the first study to demonstrate the safety, immunogenicity, and efficacy profile of a COVID-19 vaccine when co-administered with seasonal influenza vaccines.
• The results suggest concomitant vaccination may be a viable immunisation strategy.

2- Convalescent Plasma in Critically ill Patients with COVID-19

• The evidence for benefit of convalescent plasma for critically ill patients with Covid–19 is inconsistent.
• This study hypothesized that convalescent plasma would improve outcomes for critically ill adult patients with Covid–19.
• In critically ill adults with confirmed Covid-19, treatment with convalescent plasma, did not improve clinical outcomes.

3- Effect of Continuous Glucose Monitoring on Glycemic Control in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Treated With Basal Insulin – A Randomized Clinical Trial

• Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) has been shown to be beneficial for adults with type 2 diabetes using intensive insulin therapy, but its use in type 2 diabetes treated with basal insulin without prandial insulin has not been well studied.
• This study aims to determine the effectiveness of CGM in adults with type 2 diabetes treated with basal insulin without prandial insulin in primary care practices.
• Among adults with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes treated with basal insulin without prandial insulin, continuous glucose monitoring, as compared with blood glucose meter monitoring, resulted in significantly lower HbA1c levels at 8 months.

4- Incidence of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children Among US Persons Infected With SARS-CoV-2

• Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is associated with recent or current SARS-CoV-2 infection. Information on MIS-C incidence is limited.
• This study aims to estimate population-based MIS-C incidence per 1 000 000 person-months and to estimate MIS-C incidence per 1 000 000 SARS-CoV-2 infections in persons younger than 21 years.
• In this cohort study of 248 persons with MIS-C, MIS-C incidence was 5.1 persons per 1 000 000 person-months and 316 persons per 1 000 000 SARS-CoV-2 infections in persons younger than 21 years.

5- Does Prolonged COVID-19 Detection Identify People Who Are Infectious Long Term?

• Repeated testing for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, has become common practice during the ongoing pandemic, especially when there is a strong suspicion that a person is infected with, or has been exposed to, the pathogen.
• Molecular diagnostics are the standard means for detecting the presence of SARS-CoV-2 genetic material (RNA), with negative assays from two consecutively collected respiratory specimens more than 24 hours apart and no symptoms being the benchmark for when a patient can end quarantine and return to normal activities.
• A recent study by Johns Hopkins Medicine provides new insight into whether or not prolonged detection of SARS-CoV-2 genetic material also indicates a person who is still infectious.

6- Youngest Covid-19 Patients Most Likely to Avoid Severe Illness, Recover With Care

• In a comprehensive review of research studies looking at infections from SARS-CoV-2 — the virus that causes COVID-19 — in infants less than 3 months old, Johns Hopkins Medicine researchers found that the majority of these tiny patients experience mild to moderate cases of the disease and usually recover with supportive care.
